Defining Data Scientists
The first step to any successful UX project is to define your users. One of the three main personas targeted by the Open Source project Trusted Analytics Platform was data scientists.
In an effort to understand the profession, to better design tools for their use, 20+ contextual interviews were conducted and combined with a quantified study of data scraped from online job posting resources.
The result of the research showed 3 segments in the data scientist persona.
UI Usability Testing Results - Trusted Analytics Platform (TAP)
The graphical user interface for the Trusted Analytics Platform (TAP) was designed prior to a UX designer being hired. The existing UI was tested using a series of tasks and evaluated both qualitatively and quantitatively.
The results of the recorded usability test sessions led to a series of major improvements to the web UI.

User Testing Patience Study
In an effort to help streamline the recruiting phase of user testing, this project is a website built with the intentions of testing and recording the technical aptitude and patience level of more than one thousand internet users. The results of the test will be used to define an average American internet user by statistically comparing both variables.
Take The Test
The website includes a scale measurement of each user’s internet aptitude as well as a test designed to push each user’s patience level to the limit, recording the length of time it takes to reach that limit.
By accurately measuring and modeling an average American internet user, user experience designers can quickly evaluate the worth of users chosen for user testing, in the hopes of gaining wider acceptance of incorporating user testing into the website development lifecycle.
User Testing and Ethics
Ethics is a subject that is often overlooked when planning to conduct user testing. Most user testing involves obtaining informed consent, however there are areas of user testing that could potentially cross ethical boundaries.
This presentation is a five minute video created as an instructional step by step process to help UX designers evaluate whether or not a user testing project meets ethical guidelines.
